Amid the news of Tokyo Olympics may postponed, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga have mark clear view over it by given his statement. On Thursday , he stressed that the government is fully focussed on controlling the spread of Covid-19 after a senior ruling party official said that cancelling the Tokyo Olympics is certainly an option if the coronavirus pandemic situation worsens.

Here it is to be noted that Yoshihide Suga did not directly respond to the senior official's comments but he maintained that there is no change in the government's stance when it comes to preparing for the Olympics, which is scheduled to be held from July 23 to August 8 in Tokyo. Suga said that "There's no change to the government's stance, to do everything possible to prevent the spread of infections as we head towards the Olympics”. Earlier in the day, Toshihiro Nikai, secretary-general of the Liberal Democratic Party said the Japanese government will stop preparation for the Games if the Covid-19 situation makes it impossible to host the quadrennial event, which was postponed until July 2021 due to the pandemic last year.

However, here it is to be noted that the Tokyo Olympics Organising Committee responded with a statement saying all those involved in preparing for the Games remained fully focused on hosting them in the summer. With Japan in the midst of a fourth wave of coronavirus infections, doubts over whether Tokyo would be able to host the Summer Games - already an unpopular idea with the public - have resurfaced in recent weeks.
