CAIRO: Egypt's Prime Minister, Mostafa Madbouly, has stated that if the Ukrainian situation continues for a long time, Egypt will rely on "its strategic partnerships with France" to obtain some basic commodities such as wheat.
Madbouly made the statements during a meeting with visiting French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire in Cairo, as per reports, citing a government release. "Egypt and France share the same aspirations and concerns about the ramifications of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict," the Egyptian Prime Minister stated, saying that the longer the situation lasts, the worse it will be for the world economy.
Le Maire, for one, reaffirmed his country's full support for Egypt during the worldwide economic crisis, particularly in the global commodity market. He stated that France produces 35 million tonnes of wheat per year and exports nearly half of it, emphasising France's willingness to work with Egypt in this area.
Le Maire met with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi earlier in the day to discuss ways to boost economic collaboration between the two countries.According to the Egyptian presidency, the Egyptian president emphasised "the strategic relations between Egypt and France" during the meeting.
