New Delhi: BJP President and Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussions with senior party leaders on the Karnataka issue. Shah consulted party leaders amid indications that BS Yeddyurappa may be the BJP's choice for the post of Chief Minister after the HD Kumaraswamy-led coalition government in Karnataka collapsed on Tuesday. Asked about the BJP's preference for the top post in the state, a party leader said Yeddyurappa was "obviously" a contender but added that the party's top leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah, would take a decision in this regard.

Yeddyurappa is seen as a man who is a Congressman in the state. Led the campaign to oust the JD(S) government from power. Talking to reporters in Karnataka, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Prahlad Joshi said that Yeddyurappa is a natural choice for the post but the final decision will be taken by the national leadership. He said the party will stake claim to form the next government.

Reacting to the fall of the Kumaraswamy government, senior BJP leader and Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said, "In the end, the truth has won and Karnataka will get the popular BJP government. Earlier, BJP spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao said that the "corrupt, illegal" coalition government in Karnataka could not win the confidence vote of the Congress-JDS government.
