NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah today, May 15, inaugurated a training programme on Legislative Drafting in the national capital,  emphasing the need to draft a very "simple and clear law".

The Home Minister made a point of urging the attendees during his address to execute a "simple and clear Law" in order to prevent interference from the court and any potential disputes.

He stressed the importance of developing new skills while crafting any act, noting that legislative drafting is a continuous process. Shah said that "we should concentrate on drafting a very simple and clear act so that it should be beyond any dispute and it avoid the court's intervention." "Skill upgradation is required since the process of drafting legislation is ongoing. We would lose our relevance if we didn't," he said.

The Programme, run by the Institute of Constitutional and Parliamentary Studies (ICPS) in partnership with the Parliamentary Research and Training Institute for Democracies (PRIDE), aimed to improve officers of Parliament, State Legislatures, and various ministries, statutory bodies, and other government departments' understanding of the principles and practises of legislative drafting.

The design of legislation has a significant influence on how laws and regulations are applied for the benefit of society and the state. Legislative draughtsmen need periodic training to hone their abilities because they are in charge of creating legislation that supports democratic governance and puts the rule of law into action. They will be able to develop their capacity thanks to the training curriculum.
