New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti are currently in custody. Questions are being raised about their continued detention. On this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah says that he has been kept in custody under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Responding to the question of Umar and Mehbooba being detained, Amit Shah said in a conversation with a private channel that " They are currently under custody under the PSA".

The video containing this statement has been shared by BJP on its Twitter handle. Omar and Mehbooba are leaders of the main parties of Jammu and Kashmir who were detained on August 5, before the state's special status was lifted from Jammu and Kashmir. The PSA on Omar's father and National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has been removed. Farooq has been the CM of the state thrice and is currently an MP from Srinagar.

Let us tell you that under PSA, the government can keep a person in custody for a period of six months to two years without trial. When the question was asked about the detention of these leaders, Shah said, "When the incident was fresh after the removal of Article 370, it was definitely a shock to people which is normal. If someone tries to provoke, then obviously there will be a problem in controlling the situation."
