An official said on Wednesday that instead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will attend the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat's Narmada district on October 31.

The prime minister was expected to attend the celebrations at the Statue of Unity near Kevadia, according to the authorities. Shah will, however, attend the event because he is now scheduled to attend the G-20 Summit in Rome at that time, according to the official. Shah, along with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, will attend the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations near the 182-meter-tall structure dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Pandit, according to a tweet from the Chief Minister's Office.

Since 2014, Sardar Patel's birthday has been commemorated as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day), with a national celebration at the Statue of Unity. A "Ekta Parade" will be held at the venue as part of the celebrations, for which police jawans from across the country have been invited to Kevadia, according to a release. Border Security Force, ITBP, CISF, and CRPF personnel will also take part in the Ekta Parade and perform daredevil stunts at the venue, according to the announcement.
