BENGALURU: The current Hindi language push Union Home Minister Amit Shah has enraged Karnataka, with Opposition leader Siddaramaiah criticising it on Friday.

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah described it as an attempt to impose Hindi on the country, stating that if such an attempt is undertaken, he will not stay quiet. He stated, "The time has come for the non-Hindi states to raise a protest." Some Kannada organisations have also responded, stating that if Hindi is enforced in the state, they will not remain silent.

Amit Shah has remarked that people from various states should communicate in Hindi rather than English, and that Hindi should be considered as a viable alternative to English. "Amit Shah's directive to ask states to communicate in Hindi rather than English is inappropriate," Siddaramaiah, a Congress veteran, remarked.  "As a self-respecting Kannadiga, I condemn Shah's statement," he stated.

"We have no objections to Hindi, English, Tamil, Malayalam, or Gujarati. In Karnataka, however, the Kannada language should take precedence. It is impossible to remain silent if an attempt is made to impose Hindi "he stated
