Srinagar: Union Home Minister Amit Shah is set to chair a high-level security review meeting on January 2, focusing on Jammu & Kashmir. The meeting will delve into matters concerning the law and order situation, security grid, and the zero-terror plan. Scheduled for the afternoon, the review will encompass assessments of the security grid's performance and various aspects related to security and development initiatives in the Union Territory.

Among the agenda items are evaluations of the area domination plan, zero-terror plan, law and order situation, cases under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and other security-related issues. The meeting will see the presence of Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, Director General of Police RR Swain, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, among others.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, Director Intelligence Bureau Tapan Deka, Director Generals of Police of the Central Reserve Police Force and the Border Security Force, and relevant officers from the Ministry of Home Affairs and Jammu & Kashmir will also participate. The agenda extends to a review of development projects in the Union Territory, particularly focusing on the New Central Sector Scheme for Industrial Development of Jammu & Kashmir launched in 2021 with a budget of Rs 28,400 crore.

During the meeting, the Home Minister is expected to assess the progress and impact of the development initiatives. The gathering aligns with ongoing efforts to fortify the security apparatus and promote comprehensive development in the region. This meeting follows a similar high-level review held by Amit Shah on January 13 last year, where he emphasized a policy of zero tolerance against terrorism and the need to strengthen the 360-degree security mechanism. Another review in April 2023 addressed various aspects of the security situation and the functioning of the security grid in the Union Territory.
