LABUAN BAJO : India's G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant led the Indian delegation to the second G20 Sherpa meeting, called by Indonesia, to review the progress made under various Working Groups of the G20 Sherpa Track.
In his remarks throughout several sector-specific sessions, he reiterated India's unwavering support for Indonesia during its G20 Presidency, described India's accomplishments and experiences, and urged for an inclusive, forward-thinking, and collaborative approach to tackling global concerns. He emphasised the significance of all G20 countries working together urgently, cooperatively, politically neutrally, and fairly to address concerns related to health, food, and energy security.
The Indian Sherpa discussed the importance of mainstreaming sustainability into the tourism industry as well as protecting and promoting the interests of small and marginal farmers.
He emphasised the use of data and digitization for empowerment, financial inclusion, capacity building, and the creation of long-term jobs. Kant said that in order to promote equitable transitions, the development and climate discourses should be viewed holistically and on an equal footing when it comes to catastrophe risk, climate change, and environmental challenges.
He highlighted India's quick progress in accelerating the use of renewable energy and reaffirmed India's COP 26 pledges. He placed a strong emphasis on the need to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration while also deepening international participation.
