Amritsar: Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh is all set to announce his new party soon. According to sources, the captain's new party will be named 'Punjab Vikas Party.' Sources said, the captain is scheduled to convene a meeting of leaders close to him in a few days to consider the formation of his new party, which will be attended by all leaders of the anti-Sidhu faction.

It may be recalled that Amarinder has already said that his first goal is to defeat former Punjab Congress President Navjot Singh Sidhu. A strong candidate is likely to be fielded by his newly formed party against Sidhu in the upcoming assembly elections. Meanwhile, captains will also interact with all farmer leaders of Punjab. He will also bring some smaller parties with him.

On Thursday, Amarinder Singh had said, "I have been in politics for 52 years, but he treated me like this." At 10.30 p.m., Congress President Sonia Gandhi asked me to resign. I didn't ask any questions. At four o'clock I went to the Governor and resigned. Even after 50 years, you will doubt me. My credibility is at stake and there is no confidence, so there is no point in staying at the party.
