Brazil: An anaesthetist who is accused of sexually assaulting a pregnant patient during a C-section may have also attacked two other mothers that day. After allegedly secretly filming a woman at the Hospital da Mulher in So Joo de Meriti, Rio de Janeiro, being orally raped after being heavily sedated, Giovanni Quintella Bezerra, 32, was detained on suspicion of rape.

According to reports, hospital staff installed a covert camera to monitor his activities because they were concerned about the dosage of drugs he was allegedly giving his patients.They watched in horror as he sexually assaulted the woman while behind a surgical curtain, less than a yard away, other medical professionals performed the C-section on her.

Police are looking into whether two other women who were treated by the doctor that day for similar attacks were also raped, according to staff members who witnessed the rape.

The Secretary of State for Health and the Health Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro announced: "We inform you that an internal investigation will be opened to take administrative measures.The victim's family is receiving complete support from the Hospital da Mulher team.

"This behaviour is illegal and must be punished in accordance with the law in effect," it states.Hospital staff received praise from the police for acting quickly to report the crime. the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro has announced that the doctor's custody hearing will take place on Tuesday.

In Brazil, he is accused of rape and could receive a sentence of 8 to 15 years in prison.
