Ballia: UP Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Anand Swaroop Shukla said on Thursday, a day after the statement of Muslim women getting rid of the burqa, that women should have the freedom to wear any clothes. He said that nothing should be imposed on women by taking the name of conservatism and tradition, the enlightened people and religious leaders of the society should be given a chance to advance the society with the 21st century.

Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Shukla, while speaking to the press here on Thursday, clarified his statement of getting freedom from the burqa. He said that he is talking about improvement. Shukla further said that a woman of any religion should have the freedom to wear what and what she should not wear. He said that nothing should be imposed on them in the name of conservatism and tradition. The minister reiterated that the burqa has been banned in many Muslim countries.

Shukla further said that definitely Muslim religious gurus should think in this regard and Muslim women should be given the right whether they wear the burqa or not. Asked whether the government will take steps to ban it? He said that this subject is not yet with the government, it is a matter of society. The minister said that Muslim religious gurus should take cognizance of this, know the opinion of Muslim women, Muslim religion gurus, No religious guru should force the woman of any religion to wear any clothes in the name of tradition.
