A complaint has been filed against renowned Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor at a Mumbai police station for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The complaint also includes his family members. The incident came to light after a video went viral, showing Ranbir Kapoor and his family celebrating Christmas. In the video shared by Filmfare on their Instagram account, Ranbir is seen pouring alcohol on a cake and then saying 'Jai Mata Di' (a religious chant).

The caption of the video on Filmfare's Instagram account read, "During the Kapoor family's Christmas lunch, Ranbir, while lighting the cake, made everyone laugh with cheers of 'Jai Mata Di'!" In the video, Ranbir Kapoor can be heard saying 'Jai Mata Di' after pouring alcohol on the cake, and other family members also join in chanting the religious phrase. After watching the video, many social media users expressed anger.

In response to the incident, advocate Sanjay Tiwari claimed that Ranbir Kapoor's actions have hurt religious sentiments deliberately. He filed a complaint in this regard through advocates Ashish Rai and Pankaj Mishra in the Bombay High Court, demanding action in the matter. According to media reports, the complaint letter stated, "In Sanatan Dharma, pure items and materials are offered to the fire god by chanting hymns before any auspicious event. However, Ranbir Kapoor used impure substances, such as alcohol, which hurts the sentiments of Sanatan Dharma."

The complainant insists that Ranbir Kapoor and his family should be charged under sections 295, 509, and 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). It is worth mentioning that there were earlier reports of Ranbir Kapoor playing the role of Lord Rama in filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari's upcoming movie based on the Ramayana. However, after the video surfaced, fans were taken aback as they had expected Ranbir Kapoor to have given up alcohol and other habits for the role, as he had claimed earlier during the shooting of the Ramayana-based film. Some social media users questioned the contradiction in Ranbir's actions, especially since he had mentioned quitting drinking, smoking, and consuming beef for the film.
