The current YCP government in AP has taken a sensational decision to bring in changes to the Panchayati Raj Act and issue another ordinance as the current ordinance is about to expire. The Local Election Ordinance, which had earlier amended the Panchayati Raj Act on February 20, came into enforcement. However, the ordinance is expected to become law within six months. But the AP government has once again issued an ordinance on amendments to the Panchayati Raj Act in the wake of the expiration of the six-month-old rule.
Andhra local elections to get canceled?
Although the Ordinance Bill amending the Panchayati Raj Act in the last Assembly sessions was passed in the Legislative Assembly, it was not brought in the Legislature. As a result, the ordinance did not become law. Then the AP government mainly focused on the decentralization bill and the CRDA repeal bills so the amendment bill made in the Panchayati Raj Act was not passed in the council. The AP government has issued another ordinance following the expiry of the six-month period by August 20.
