Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh): APCB Real Time Monitoring System based in Visakhapatnam, Tirumala, Amaravati and Vijayawada has recorded low air quality index (AQI) levels in Diwali this year. According to the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APCB), this year there was a significant decline in crackers, banning noise and air pollution levels on Diwali. The AQI level in Visakhapatnam was 298 at 9 pm on Saturday, while diwali in 2019 was 610.
APCB Scientific Officer Dr. BV Prasad said, "There is a significant change in registered readings. On Saturday, the average 100 AQI was recorded in Visakhapatnam. Major cities have recorded high AQI levels during two hours of approval. The level OF PM 10 and PM 2.5 is also very low compared to Diwali last year. Low fireworks are believed to be the main reason for improvement in AQI this year. "
In Amaravati, 255 AQIs were recorded on Saturday evening, while 450 in 2019. Meanwhile, the health department has expressed happiness over the AQI level on Diwali. The large-scale awareness campaign conducted by the department on the harmful effects of pollution on Covid-19 patients has given positive results.
