The state government has kept the promise of the state government in the implementation of the money transfer under the YSR Free Agricultural Power Scheme. The administrative sanction was granted to Rs 6.05 crore for the month of September for agricultural power supply under the pilot project in Srikakulam district. The Energy Secretary Srikanth Nagulapalli issued the order on Wednesday.

The state government has decided to directly deposit free agricultural power subsidy into farmer's accounts while the central government has brought electricity reforms. The scheme will be implemented without any burden on the farmer. It is clear that it will be sent to the power company only after the government's money is in the farmer's accounts.

The previous government gave only Rs 4,000 crore as subsidy for free agricultural power. The YSRCP government has allocated Rs 8,353.70 crore for agricultural power subsidy in 2020-21. Currently, the eastern power distribution company has calculated the cost of transferring money depending on the power load and connections in Srikakulam district. There are 25,971 agricultural pumpsets in the district Their consumption capacity is 1,02,963 horsepower (HP). The price per unit is Rs 6.58 per unit as decided by APERC. The EPDCL calculated that the electricity subsidy would be Rs 6.05 crore in September. This amount goes to farmer's accounts.
