New Delhi: Bengal's ruling party Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the main rival BJP are focusing on Durga Puja to attract voters. Last year, Amit Shah inaugurated a Durga Puja at Salt Lake in Kolkata. This time, the BJP is preparing to capitalise the PM Modi's image a few months before the assembly elections in Bengal.

Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee launched 69 Durga Puja Pandalas in 10 districts on Wednesday. The inaugural process will continue individually for the next two days. On October 22, PM Modi will attend a Durga Puja being organised by the BJP's Mahila Morcha and its cultural wing at EZCC, a cultural centre run by the Union Government's Ministry of Culture. On the first day of Durga Puja, PM Modi will congratulate the people of Bengal on several video platforms. The site will be decorated as a special Durga Pandalal with a full size statue of Goddess Durga.

State BJP unit president Dilip Ghosh emphasised that the party is not participating directly in organising Durga Puja, but if the cultural wing and the women wing want to do something, they are welcome. CM Banerjee has so strong his presence in the pooja Pandalas that in some of the pandals in the past, the statues of Maa Durga were also seen as they, wearing clothes like them and even trademark air slippers, and statues of Maa Durga have been seen.
