Mumbai: The CBI has arrested former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in a corruption case. Deshmukh was discharged from JJ Hospital a day earlier. He was admitted to the hospital since Saturday. Subsequently, the CBI has arrested him and started questioning him. Earlier, the CBI had arrested Deshmukh's PA Kundan Shinde, PS Sanjeev Palande and suspended Assistant Police Inspector Sachin Vaze.
Earlier, the Bombay High Court refused to hear Anil Deshmukh's petition. The judge directed that the petition be placed before another bench. Deshmukh had challenged the special CBI court's order allowing the CBI's application seeking his custody in the alleged corruption case.
The same Deshmukh had challenged two orders passed by the Mumbai CBI court and special courts under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), in which the courts had ordered the CBI to grant his custody. Deshmukh is facing corruption charges. As per the Bombay High Court order, the CBI had filed a complaint against him and unknown criminals. The CBI's investigation was on when the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Deshmukh on charges of money laundering. The CBI decided to detain Deshmukh and other criminals after an investigation that lasted for almost a year. For this, the agency had filed an application before the special CBI court of Judge DP Shingade.
