Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) national president and former Uttar Pradesh CM Akhilesh Yadav has hit out at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The SP chief has termed the BJP as a serial killer of democracy, alleging irregularities in panchayat and legislative council elections. He also attacked inflation and took a jibe at the BJP.

Akhilesh Yadav said in Kannauj, "BJP is the serial killer of democracy. How votes are looted in a democracy, the BJP has become its expert. In Kannauj, many colleagues could not fill out the forms. In Etah, the police captain and the district magistrate did not allow the form to be filed together. The same thing happened with his friends in Farrukhabad.'' He said that to expect a fair election from the BJP would be to deceive itself. He said that ever since the BJP came to power, the interest in banks has been continuously coming down. In Kanpur, jewellery is being looted from the locker.

On the rising prices of petrol and diesel, Akhilesh had said that what he had said was happening. He said "I had said that the price of petrol and diesel will go up, that is what happened after the elections. Along with inflation, unemployment is also being hit. People are committing suicide. Akhilesh Yadav said that even journalists are not safe under the BJP rule. If you run the true news, they will put you in jail too. The journalist who exposed the UP Board paper leak in Ballia was arrested. The children are crying, the mother is crying. They didn't know that their son wouldn't come back home. This is very condemnable behaviour.''
