Former Punjab MLA Dalvir Singh Goldy has made a swift political move, switching from the Congress to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) just a day after bidding adieu to his former party. The switch was formalized in Chandigarh, with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann witnessing Goldy's induction into the AAP ranks.

Goldy's departure from the Congress stemmed from his dissatisfaction over being denied a ticket to contest from the Sangrur Lok Sabha constituency. His frustration was palpable, leading him to tender his resignation to Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, citing his disenchantment with the state leadership.

Having represented the Dhuri assembly seat in the past, Goldy had set his sights on the Sangrur parliamentary seat for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, the Congress had other plans, nominating Sukhpal Khaira, a three-time MLA, for the Sangrur constituency.

Expressing his disappointment publicly on April 16, Goldy urged the Congress high command to uphold their commitments, emphasizing that assurances were made during the 2022 Sangrur bypoll regarding his candidacy in the 2024 general elections.

Goldy's political journey has seen its shares of highs and lows, including an unsuccessful bid for the Dhuri seat against AAP's Bhagwant Mann in the 2022 assembly elections and an unsuccessful campaign in the 2022 Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll.
