Another operation planned at Zaman Park during Eid holidays?: Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's Ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan  on Monday told the Lahore High Court (LHC) that the authorities had planned another operation at his residence in Zaman Park during the Eid holidays, and requested the court to halt any action against his party.

He revealed that he has reliable information about another possible assassination attempt during the upcoming Eid holidays at his residence in Zaman Park, Lahore. Imran Khan  said that this would be the second assassination attempt since the Wazirabad attack last year during the anti-government long march from Lahore to Islamabad.

Khan made these statements at a hearing on a petition he filed with the Lahore High Court (LHC) asking for instructions from relevant parties not to intervene and have him arrested in relation to about 121 FIRs lodged against him.

Similar to the "planned" attack in Wazirabad, the leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) claimed that "they" are preparing a second assassination attempt.

Khan refers to "them" as the military, security, and political establishment, which he has been accused of conspiring against him to first overthrow his government and then kill him.

In order to prevent what he called "bloodshed" planned by "them," the former premier asked the LHC to step in and urge the relevant authorities to stop from detaining him.

Khan further said that the present coalition government, led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, has no intention of imprisoning him but rather of getting rid of him.

"If police and security personnel attacked my Zaman Park apartment once more, the situation would get worse. People in the administration who want to murder me want bloodshed, not relief, he continued.

Salman Safdar, Khan's attorney, informed the court that since Pakistan and India can declare a cease-fire during Muharram, "they why the police officials cannot be restrained from arresting Imran Khan during Eid holidays?" "Police officials had been restrained from using any coercive measures in both cases of Imran Khan and Shahbaz Gill, but the officials did not bother to abide by any court's orders," the attorney claimed.

The law officer, who vehemently disagreed with Khan's attorney's account and argued that the police's actions were not unlawful, asked the court to reject the PTI chief's motion and forbid them from attempting to sway and interfere with the inquiry process.
