US infectious disease expert Anthony Fauci suggests President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris should be vaccinated for COVID-19 as soon as possible, before their sworn in ceremony. Speaking to ABC's “Good Morning America” on Tuesday, Fauci said, “For security reasons, I really feel strongly that we should get them vaccinated as soon as we possibly can."

Fauci adds he''d like to see Biden "fully protected as he enters into the presidency in January.” Fauci also suggests while President Donald Trump probably who was a victim still has antibodies to the virus that will protect him for at least several months, he should get the vaccine as well to be “doubly sure.” Trump was hospitalised with COVID-19 in early October. Infectious disease expert Fauci says Vice President Mike Pence should get vaccinated, too. He says, “You still want to protect people who are very important to our country right now".

He in a separate interview expressed his hope to get as much as 85 percent of Americans vaccinated against the virus.“If you really want true herd immunity, where you get a blanket of protection over the country ... you want about 75 to 85 percent of the country to get vaccinated". At a minimum, the United States should vaccinate atleast 60 percent of people in order to start bringing case numbers down to a manageable level.
