Bengaluru: Union Minister Anurag Thakur called on the Rajasthan government on Tuesday to promote communal harmony in the state following recent violence between groups.
"The state government should make every effort to guarantee that no one exploits the feelings of others, and that communal peace is maintained. Communal confrontations have occurred in Rajasthan in the recent two months, and necessary peacekeeping measures should be adopted "Thakur remarked. Following the violence in Jodhpur and Karauli in Rajasthan during the last two months, the minister made his observations.
The clashes began on Monday night at Balmukand Bissa, near the Jalori Gate crossroads circle in Jodhpur, between two communities over the flying of different flags, resulting in stone-pelting after Eid prayers. To disperse the mob, police used a lathi charge. In connection with the stone-pelting incidents in Jodhpur, 97 persons have been arrested.
According to an official order, the Jodhpur district administration has suspended all mobile internet services in the area till further notice, as well as imposed a curfew from 1 p.m. on Tuesday to midnight on May 4th.
In Karauli, violence erupted following a stone-pelting incident during a religious procession in April of this year.
