The government has paid special attention to the task of alleviating the famine in the Palnati region with the flood waters of the Godavari River and the Varikapudisela dyke. YSSAR has set up SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle) under the name of YSSAR Palnadu Drought Prevention Project Corporation to expedite the work of lifting Godavari waters through Palnadu excavations and flood waters from Varikapudisela ditches through paddy fields. In addition to budget allocations, SPV plans to complete these projects expeditiously by bringing in low interest loans from national and international financial institutions. It aims to provide irrigation to two lakh acres in Palnadu and to quench the thirst of the people.

Of the Godavari waters flowing from the Polavaram right canal to the Prakasam barrage, the remaining 7,000 cusecs will be diverted to the Krishna delta and lifted 80 km from the Prakasam barrage watershed to the Nagarjuna Sagar right canal. From there the waters of the Godavari are diverted to Palnadu. The government has sanctioned Rs 6,020 crore for these works under the YSSR Palnadu Upliftment Scheme.

Meanwhile, the authorities have sent proposals worth Rs 1,273 crore to the government for the second phase of upliftment of paddy fields.
