The National Health Mission is more important for the control of noncommunicable diseases (NCD) i.e. infectious diseases. Our state is number one in the country. A household survey was conducted for five crore people to identify diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

The NHM's observation sparked a further improvement in the efforts to go to every village through 104 vehicles and give free medicines. The state is also ranked first in the management of Health and Wellness Centres (now called YSR Health Clinics). There are over 10,000 health and wellness centers in the state, of which 8,604 new buildings are being constructed. Already half of the centres have been appointed as mid-level health providers for BSc Nursing.

This has resulted in millions of rural people to go to higher hospitals. Ap, which is now in the process of connecting RCH (Reproductive Child Health) i.e. health of pregnant women and child care to the central lying portal, has now come first. Kerala and Tamil Nadu are at the forefront of maternal and child mortality control and family planning.
