Kolkata: Allegations of corruption and recruitment scams in West Bengal are not limited to the recruitment of teachers. There has been a stir after receiving many complaints in the case of municipal recruitment. The central probe agency's suspicion has deepened and this time the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is more active in the municipal recruitment corruption case, especially after heaps of OMR sheets related to municipal appointments were found at the residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Ayan Sheel, arrested in a recruitment corruption case.

It is noteworthy that a letter has already been written to the State Public Works and Urban Development Department on behalf of the ED. The agency has sought complete details of the number of appointments made in any municipality since 2014 and has sent a letter not only to the Public Works and  Urban Development Department but also to the State Municipal Service Commission. According to sources, since 2014, the investigating officer of the ED has been sending all the information related to the recruitment through the Municipal Service Commission. According to sources, complete details of how many appointments have been made in a municipality since 2014, which agency was in charge, have been sought. Sources said that a letter has also been written to the District Commissioner of Hooghly in this regard.

In an earlier report submitted by the ED to the court, the central probe agency had claimed that senior TMC leader Ayan Sheel, arrested in the recruitment corruption case, had confessed during the ED's interrogation that a huge amount of money was taken as bribe for illegal recruitment in the municipality. The ED claims that more than Rs 200 crore was taken from job seekers. The ED has also stated in its report that these financial transactions were for recruitment to some posts.
