Apple is set to introduce M4-powered MacBooks and iMacs later this year. However, a complete refresh of its entire Mac lineup with the latest M-series chip is expected in 2025.

The MacBook Air and other high-end desktop Macs will receive their M4 upgrades next year.

Minimal Changes for M4 MacBook Pro
Apple last updated its MacBook Pro lineup in October 2023, and introduced the M3 MacBook Air in March 2024. Seven months after the M3 chip’s launch, the company unveiled its 2024 iPad Pro lineup featuring the M4 chip with advanced machine learning accelerators.

According to Mark Gurman’s Power On newsletter for Bloomberg, Apple plans to refresh its MacBook Pro lineup with the M4 chip in 2024. The company has a history of releasing new MacBook Pros in late Q3 or Q4, and this pattern is expected to continue in 2024. This aligns with predictions from Display Supply Chain Consultants' CEO, Ross Young, who also anticipates M4 MacBook Pros by the end of 2024.

The report suggests that beyond the updated chip, there won’t be significant changes to the upcoming MacBook Pro lineup. While there are rumors of future MacBooks featuring ultra-slim designs, no such design changes are expected this year.

The M4 chip is expected to include more powerful AI cores, enhancing Apple Intelligence capabilities. Apple may also introduce new AI-focused features in the M4-powered MacBook Pros.

M4 MacBook Air and Mac Pro Expected Next Year
Gurman also indicates that Apple will update the Mac mini and iMac with the M4 chip this year. Updates for the MacBook Air, Mac Studio, and Mac Pro with the latest SoC will follow in 2025.

The M4 MacBook Air may debut in spring 2025, potentially alongside the rumored iPhone SE 4. Other high-end Macs are expected to receive their M4 upgrades later in the year.
