New Delhi:- The decline in global PC shipments slowed in the second quarter, with Apple outpacing the market with a 51% increase, thanks to strong demand for the recently launched 15-inch MacBook Air, according to data from research firm Canalys.

The report reinforces early signs of an industry recovery as consumers and businesses look to new device upgrades to weather the post-pandemic downturn.

According to Canalys, the global PC market fell 12% in the second quarter of 2023, benefiting from strong back-to-school demand, which is a sharper drop than the more than 30% decline in the last two quarters. said to have shrunk.

"There are signs that many of the issues affecting the sector are beginning to ease," said Canalys principal analyst Ishan Dutt.

Apple grew the fastest among the major PC makers, shipping over 6.8 million units, and market share fell as supply chain hurdles eased and the company relied on demand to benefit from the new MacBook Air. It rose to 11% from 6.4% in the same period last year.

Market leader Lenovo saw shipments fall 18.1%, down from a 30.3% decline in the previous quarter. HP and Dell also experienced smaller declines compared to the previous quarter.  

``Inventories continued to decline in the second quarter,'' said Kieren Jessop, research analyst at Canalys. “With the final wave of destocking and further seasonality in the second half of the year, all customer segments should see gradual improvement over the remainder of 2023.”

But Canalys expects 2023 deliveries to be lower than 2022 as consumers prefer to spend on essentials amid high inflation and rising interest rates.  

Apple has recently reported an increase in the demand for the new Macbook 13 and 15 Inch and a decline in the Q2 PC by 12 percent globally this year.
