Taking a step further in the development of the defence sector on Friday, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh approved a scheme under which a cost of Rs 400 crores for testing of developed and regular military hardware (devices) in the country by the domestic defence industry. Centres will be prepared.

On this matter, officials of the Ministry of Defense said that the goal of Defense Equipment Testing Scheme (DTIS) is to boost the production of defence and airspace in the country. According to the statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, "The Defense Ministry has approved the DTS with an initial budget of Rs 400 crore under which state-of-the-art infrastructure and premises will be developed for the defence sector."

This scheme is for a period of five years and during this time six to eight new testing centres will be established in partnership with private industries. According to the statement, for these schemes, the government will give 75 percent as grant and the remaining 25 percent cost will be the responsibility of private industries and state governments. Currently, India is among the largest military equipment importers in the world. The government is focusing on making the country a major centre for defence production.
