Moscow: The Russian Revolution started on January 22, 1905, and that day was a Sunday. During that time Tsar Nicholas II was ruling in Russia. There was resentment among the workers against many policies of Czar Nicholas. Due to this, the workers were protesting on this day on issues like their wages and working hours. The convoy of workers was heading in the direction of the Winter Palace in St. Petersburg to meet the Czar. They wanted to meet Czar Nicholas with their demands, but before they could reach Czar, the soldiers gunned down the unarmed workers. More than 500 people were killed in this incident.

Since then this day is known as Bloody Sunday in the history of Russia. After this incident, the Russian Revolution started in 1917 under the leadership of Vladimir Lenin. That is, the Russian Revolution took place in two phases. In the first phase, in 1905, a major political and social movement took place in the Russian Empire. It was during this revolution that the Czar's rule came to an end.

The Czar was hanged along with his wife and 5 children. After the revolution, the civil war started in Russia. It was between the Red Army and the White Army. Explain that the Red Army was a supporter of socialism, while the White Army was a supporter of capitalism and monarchy. The opponents of socialism were defeated in 1920. In 1922, the Soviet Union, i.e. USSR, was established.
