Indore: Kamal Nath, former CM of Madhya Pradesh and a very trusted Congress leader of the Gandhi family, has completed 76 years today. Whenever there is a talk of important personalities in the country's politics, Kamal Nath's name comes in the list of top leaders. He ended 15 years of exile in Madhya Pradesh and once again gave power to the Congress, although his government fell after the rebellion of Jyotiraditya Scindia and his supporters. Born on 18 November 1946 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Kamal Nath is today a well-known face of the Congress not only in Madhya Pradesh but in the entire country. 

Kamal Nath's early education took place in Kanpur. Father Mahendra Nath wanted his son to become a lawyer, but something else was written in Kamal Nath's fate. Kamal Nath has been a student of Doon School, Dehradun. It is said that during his studies in Doon School, he came in contact with Sanjay Gandhi, the younger son of former PM Indira Gandhi, and from there the foundation of his entry into politics was laid. Political experts tell that with the passage of time, the friendship of Kamal Nath and Sanjay Gandhi kept getting deeper day by day, but a time came when there was a distance between the friendship of both, that was the time when Kamal Nath went to study at St Xavier's College, Kolkata. However, their friendship did not diminish after both were away. This friendship used to be discussed in politics as well, the reason was that both of them were always together.

An anecdote is also famous about the friendship between Sanjay Gandhi and Kamal Nath that 'when the Janata Party government was formed after the Emergency. Then Sanjay Gandhi was sent to Tihar Jail in a case. At that time Indira Gandhi was worried about the safety of Sanjay Gandhi. In such a situation, Kamal Nath deliberately fought with a judge to go to jail with Sanjay Gandhi. After which Kamal Nath was put in Tihar Jail on charges of contempt.'

Kamal Nath's name came in the 1984 Sikh riots:-

Nath was accused of inciting the mob after the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984 along with the party's Delhi Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar. Eyewitnesses said that these leaders instigated the crowd outside Rakabganj Gurudwara in Delhi, due to which violence started and two Sikh youths were killed in front of them. The matter was investigated by the Nanavati Commission and Kamal Nath was thrown out of the case by giving him the benefit of doubt.

It is said that at this time the commission heard the testimony of two people, including the then Indian Express reporter Sanjay Suri, and Suri said that Kamal Nath was present at the scene. Later, Kamal Nath also accepted that he was on the spot, but the purpose of his being there was not to incite riots but to pacify the present crowd. Let us tell you that the riots broke out in Delhi almost because of them. 3000 Sikhs had lost their lives. The incident was investigated after 25 years and it was believed that there was not enough evidence against Kamal Nath.
