New Delhi: Born on November 19, 1971, Kiren Rijiju is an Indian lawyer and politician from Arunachal Pradesh, who has been handling the country's Law and Justice Ministry in PM Narendra Modi's government since July 7, 2021. Rijiju was born on this day in 1971 at Nakhu near Nafra in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. He is the son of Rinchin Kharu and Chirai Rijiju.  

His father was the first speaker pro tem of Arunachal, who administered the oath to the members of the first state assembly. Rijiju received his BA bachelor's degree from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. In 1998, he took a Bachelor of Laws degree (LLB) from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. In the 2004 Lok Sabha election, he won as the 14th Lok Sabha from Arunachal West constituency. Rijiju won the Lok Sabha election for the second time in 2014 from Arunachal West. At that time Rijiju was made the Minister of State for Home Affairs in Narendra Modi's cabinet.

After winning the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rijiju was appointed Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Youth Affairs and Sports and Minister of State for Home Affairs. In July 2021, when the cabinet changed, he was made minister of law and justice. Rijiju married Zoram Reena Rijiju in 2004. She is a graduate from Lady Shri Ram College for Women, New Delhi and a gold medal winner from Arunachal University. She is an assistant professor of history at Dera Natung College, Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh.
