Guru Ramdas, the fourth guru of the Sikhs, was born in Lahore on October 9, 1534. He founded the city of Amritsar and Prakash Parv or Guruparva is celebrated on his birthday. Tell you that Amritsar was earlier known as Ramdaspur. Guru Ramdas Ji's childhood name was Jetha. His father's name was Haridas and his mother was Anup Devi. Guru Ramdas was married to Bibi Bano, daughter of Guru Amar Das.

Seeing Jetha Ji's devotion, Guru Amar Das handed over the guru's chair on September 1, 1574, and renamed him, Guru Ramdas. That is, Guru Ramdas Ji received the most prominent post of Sikhism on September 1, 1574, and he continued in this post till September 1, 1581. He established a new city called 'Amrat Sarovar' in 1577 AD, which later became known as Amritsar. Guru Ramdas Ji composed Anand Karj 4 Phera (Lava) for the marriage of Sikhs and told the Sikhs about their observance and guru mat modesty. That is, Guru Ramdas Ji, introduced a new marriage system for Sikhism- Guru Ramdas Ji carried forward the langar system introduced by his gurus. He had also started digging the holy lake 'Satoshasar.'

It was during this time that people started taking donations or contributions for 'gurus.' Being such a good-natured person, Emperor Akbar also respected him. It was he who built the gates around the Golden Temple. These gates mean that this temple is open to individuals of every religion, caste, gender, and anyone can come here anytime. Guru Ramdas Ji handed over the sovereignty of the fifth Nanak to his youngest son Arjan Dev and on September 1, 1581, Guru Ramdas Ji renounced the mortal body.
