In 1932, there was a war in the country to get rid of British rule. At that time, Mahadevi Verma took an MA degree in Sanskrit from Allahabad University. She got a scholarship to study at Oxford University. She was in a dilemma about going abroad. So she arrived in Ahmedabad to meet Mahatma Gandhi to seek guidance.

She asked Mahatma Gandhi, "Bapu, should I go abroad or not?" After a few minutes of silence, Gandhiji said, "Our fight with the British is going on and you will go abroad? Work for your mother tongue and teach your fellow Indians". That is how Mahadevi's life changed. Mahadevi's close Aarti Malaviya explains that "Grandma inspired women to become self-reliant by highlighting problems through articles. During the editing period of the 'Chand' magazine, she continued to write about women's problems, their upliftment. As the principal of Prayag Mahila Vidyapeeth, the girls 'curriculum first included home science".

The chief of the National Women's Forum, the poet, Saxena, says that "Mahadevi got married to Swarup Narayan Verma, but still she continued to study. She spent her entire life serving people and inspired the women of the country to live with dignity.
