Born on 26 August 1910, Mother Teresa was born in an Albanian family in the name of Ainzeh Gonza Boyajieu to Uskub, Osman Empire (present-day Skopje, Republic of Macedonia). Mother Teresa was a Roman Catholic nun who took Indian citizenship in 1948 at her own will. She established the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata in 1950.

She helped the poor, sick, orphans and dying people for nearly 45 years and also paved the way for the spread of Missionaries of Charity. By 1970, she was globally known as Mother for her humanitarian work for the poor and helpless, she has been mentioned in several Malcolm Muggeridge documentaries and books such as Something Beautiful for God. Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979 and the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour in 1980.

During Mother Teresa's lifetime, the work of the Missionaries of Charity continued to grow and by the time of her death, she controlled 610 missions in 123 countries. This included hospices/homes for HIV / AIDS, leprosy and tuberculosis patients as well as kitchens, counselling programs for children and family, orphanages and schools. After the death of Mother Teresa, she was declared blessed by Pope John Paul II and bestowed the title of 'Blessed' at Kolkata. Mother Teresa said goodbye to this world on 5 September 1997 due to a heart attack. But even today, the love and teaching of her keeps them alive in the hearts of the people.
