Many freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for India's independence. It was because of the efforts of the freedom fighters that India became independent and the country got all the freedom to hoist its flag in the sky of its jurisdiction. But this effort also divided the country which is considered to be a major event. It has come to light that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the first Home Minister of independent India, was not in favour of the partition of India.
He did not approve of the partition of India on any condition. On 5th July, 1947, he clearly put forward his policy on princely states. He proposed the idea of trying to include the princely states in the Indian Union on the basis of three subjects, security, foreign and communication systems. The indigenous princely states were not willing to merge with the Indian Union. Hyderabad, Junagadh and Kashmir were the main states. Patel along with PV Menon had also explained this to the native kings. When there was a lot of opposition from Junagadh, the Nawab moved towards Pakistan.
When the military force was sent to merge Hyderabad, the Hyderabad Nizam surrendered. Junagadh and Hyderabad were included in the Indian Union. The merger of the princely states had to be celebrated by the kings and pressure was put on the princely states. Patel had moved forward with the concept of India being united, but it was somewhat difficult for the first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru to describe Kashmir as an international problem. The skill with which Patel merged Lakshadweep with India is unparalleled. Today, when we can see India from Kashmir to Kanyakumari and from Saurashtra to Assam, iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel has contributed significantly to this.
