Chandigarh: In the wake of the recent arrest of Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira in an old drugs-related case, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi and the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), emphasized on Monday that their primary concern is eradicating the drug menace rather than targeting any particular leader or political party.
Kejriwal's statement comes amidst rising tensions between AAP and the Congress in Punjab over seat-sharing arrangements. Despite their differences, both parties have joined forces against the BJP under the INDIA bloc banner.
Addressing an AAP event in Patiala, Kejriwal stated, "A few days ago, a prominent individual facing allegations of drug smuggling was apprehended. Various political parties have questioned the arrest by Bhagwant Mann. We want to clarify that our fight is not against any specific leader or party; our primary objective is to combat the drug problem."
Kejriwal went further to make an earnest plea to all political parties to unite against drug smugglers, emphasizing the AAP government's determination to hold those responsible for Punjab's drug crisis accountable. He expressed the government's commitment to recover illicit funds hidden in Swiss banks, with the intention of utilizing those resources for building schools and hospitals in the state. Kejriwal's stance underscores the AAP's unwavering dedication to addressing the critical issue of drug abuse and its impacts on Punjab, regardless of political rivalries and controversies.
