New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approached the court seeking permission to consult his regular doctor via video conferencing due to fluctuating blood sugar levels. Special Judge Rakesh Syal has directed the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to file a reply on the application, scheduling the hearing for April 18.

Kejriwal's lawyer informed the court that his blood sugar levels had dropped to 46, necessitating regular consultations with his doctor three times a week.

However, the Special Public Prosecutor (ED), Simon Benjamin, argued that adequate medical facilities are available in jail for Kejriwal's examination. He expressed the intention to file a reply to the application.

Kejriwal's counsel countered, questioning why the ED was opposing the request if he was merely taking care of his health.

Arvind Kejriwal has been in judicial custody following his arrest by the ED in connection with the Delhi Excise Policy case. The Delhi Court recently extended his judicial custody until April 23 in the money laundering case linked to the now-abolished liquor policy.

Previously, Kejriwal had approached the Supreme Court challenging a Delhi High Court judgment that dismissed his plea against his arrest by the ED and subsequent remand in the excise policy case.

On April 9, the High Court rejected his plea for release from jail, citing his repeated non-cooperation with ED summons over six months. The court dismissed claims of political vendetta, stating that Kejriwal's actions undermined any claims of special privilege as Chief Minister.

In his appeal against the High Court's decision, Kejriwal argued that there was no substantial evidence in the possession of the Enforcement Directorate to incriminate him under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). He emphasized that his arrest was solely based on the contradictory statements of co-accused turned approvers.

Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 as part of a money laundering investigation into alleged irregularities in the Delhi excise policy 2021-22, which has since been annulled.
