After responding to chairman Imran Khan's appeal for a protracted march into Islamabad, Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) workers and supporters pushed over containers and faced tear gas firing as they attempted to make their way into Islamabad.

Imran arrived at the Wali junction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa before taking a chopper to Islamabad.  Other party leaders left their respective areas for the federal capital. He promised energised party followers in Swabi that they will march to Islamabad's D-Chowk and that "no one can stop us." Police in Lahore battled with PTI members after the latter managed to push their way past the government's containers stationed at Batti Chowk to prevent demonstrators from reaching Islamabad.

After PTI supporters attempted to remove the containers put on the roadways leaving Lahore, law enforcement used tear gas. The workers were led by PTI leaders Yasmin Rashid, Hammad Azhar, and Shafqat Mehmood. As a result, fans of the party threw stones at the police.

Following the fights, the police took at least 12 PTI workers into custody. Former Punjab health minister Yasmin Rashid was also briefly detained by police, according to the party, who said that the officers attempted to "snatch her car keys." According to reports, a video of the event posted on social media shows a putative PTI fan opposing the former minister's detention.
