Ahmedabad: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi is furious over not being allowed to meet gangster Atiq Ahmed. Atiq Ahmed is currently serving a sentence in Sabarmati jail in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. AIMIM has decided to take a breather in next year's assembly elections in Gujarat. Owaisi is on a one-day visit to Ahmedabad. Owaisi had meanwhile sought permission to meet Atiq Ahmed, who was lodged in Sabarmati Central Jail.

Ahmedabad Central Jail Superintendent Rohan Anand refused to allow Owaisi to meet Atiq Ahmed and said, "You are informed that as per jail rules, only family or lawyers are allowed to meet the person imprisoned here. Other people are not allowed to meet due to prison rules and the corona epidemic.'' Expressing displeasure over not being allowed to meet the dreaded gangster, Asaduddin Owaisi has attacked the BJP government. Owaisi further said, "The people of Uttar Pradesh are seeing how I am being treated. We were not allowed to meet Atiq Saheb by the BJP Government.''

Asked why he included gangster Atiq Ahmed, accused of several criminal cases including murder and extortion, in his party. On this, Asaduddin Owaisi defended his decision and said that Atiq has not been convicted so far. Let the court pronounce the verdict first.
