Jakarta: Earlier this week, a military air strike on a village in Myanmar is said to have killed up to 100 people, including civilians, according to reports. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) chair said on Wednesday that the regional group "strongly condemns" the attack.

"All forms of violence must end immediately, particularly the use of force against civilians," the chair of Indonesia said in a statement.

Early on Tuesday, a military airstrike hit the central Sagaing region's Kanbalu township, where hundreds of people—mostly civilians—had gathered to commemorate the opening of a local administration office run by the shadow National Unity Government.

The People's Defense Forces, the armed wing of the NUG, were charged with forcing locals to support them after the junta acknowledged the attack late on Tuesday.

Pa Zi Gyi village and the surrounding areas, like much of Sagaing, are not under the junta's control. The junta confirmed the attack late on Tuesday and charged the NUG's armed wing, the People's Defense Forces, with pressuring locals into supporting them.

According to Myo, a resident of Pa Zi Gyi, "I lost my youngest brother, brother-in-law, aunt, uncle, niece, and nephew in the airstrike."

It is evidence that the junta is a brutal group run by the dictator, and they behaved inexplicably, he claimed. I will fight against that evil government with all of my heart and life.

Villagers told Arab News that among those killed in the strike were infants and the elderly.

Zaw, a local, stated that "people in the area have never engaged in combat with the military, but I still don't understand why the junta launched an attack on the area and killed the people." Myo, a resident of Pa Zi Gyi, also revealed to Arab News that the airstrike killed six of his family members and relatives.
