London: Senior Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has defended Alex Carey's choice to run out a roaming Jonny Bairstow on the final day of the second Ashes Test. Ashwin has frequently come under unwarranted criticism for running out batters at the non-striker's end for backing too far. Australia won the second Test at Lord's by 43 runs, taking a 2-0 lead. However, there was considerable controversy when Bairstow (10), who was about to form a partnership with captain Ben Stokes (155), dodged a slow bouncer from Cameron Green and left the crease after believing the ball was already "dead."

Alex Carey's stumping of Jonny Bairstow is currently the subject of conversation in the cricket community. Without even glancing at the Australian wicketkeeper as he hurled the ball towards the stumps, Bairstow left the bouncer Josh Hazlewood had bowled.

The third umpire judged the batter short and ruled him out. It sparked a lengthy series of responses, some of which were harsh towards the Australians.

On the other side, the guests also discovered assistance. Mankading participant R Ashwin supported the Pat Cummins-led team.

“We must get one fact loud and clear The keeper would never have a dip at the stumps from that far out in a test match unless he or his team have noticed a pattern of the batter leaving his crease after leaving a ball like Bairstow did,” he wrote.

“We must applaud the game smarts of the individual rather than skewing it towards unfair play or spirit of the game. #Ashes2023,” he added.

Earlier, Gautam Gambhir lambasted Australia for their double standards.

“Hey sledgers….does spirit of the game logic apply to u or is it just for Indians?” he wrote.

Australia won the second Ashes 2023 Test by 43 runs.
