On Tuesday, Haryana wrestler Sunil Kumar gave a great start to the golden success in the Asian Wrestling Championship started at KD Jadhav Stadium. Sunil, who reached the finals of the championship for the second time in a row, defeated Ajat Salidinov of Kyrgyzstan unilaterally 5–0. The previous time silver medalist has succeeded in changing the color of the medal this time. India has won the gold medal in Greco Roman after 27 years. Earlier in 1993, Pappu Yadav got gold in the Asian Championship.

Arjun (55 weight category) of Karnataka, playing his first senior tournament at the international level, has succeeded in winning the bronze medal. Arriving for Sunil in the final has been nothing short of an adventure. In the semi-finals, Sunil was trailing Ajmat Kustubayev of Kazakhstan 1-8. It was Ajmat against whom Sunil won the semi-finals of the last Asian Championship in China and made it to the finals. There was one minute 13 seconds left in the match. Sunil's defeat was going to be decided, but the 21-year-old wrestler defeated Ajmat once again by knocking 11 consecutive points. Earlier, Sunil defeated Takahiro of Japan in the opening round.
