Producer Asit Kumarr Modi recently spoke with the media about the new cast member, Sachin Shroff, who has taken Sailesh Lodha's place in one of the longest-running shows on television, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah.
The producer spoke candidly during their conversation about the casting of Sachin, Sailesh Lodha's departure from the show, Daya Ben's comeback, and his relationship with Disha Vakani. Asit Modi claimed to be extremely sentimental about his actors and to cry when they leave the show.
"My actors, technicians, and staff are very important to me, so whenever someone leaves, I cry. I have the impression that a member of my family has left the house and is no longer there, and I begin to wonder why. I find it increasingly difficult to accept reality. There are times in life when you can't rely on other people. We've all been a part of the show and working together for the past 13–14 years. Additionally, Sailesh ji lived with us for 13–14 years and is still a member of my family. He played a part in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah's journey and contributed to it as well. I'm sure everyone has their own needs and priorities, so I wish him the best. The TMKOC team is like a train with compartments, and during the journey, people sometimes board the train and other times board at the next station. I just hope that we can continue to amuse people in the same way in the future," he said.
Asit gushed about Sachin Shroff, saying, "Sachin does his job very well, his smile is very innocent, and I felt he's the right casting for Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. I'm sure he'll soon win viewers' hearts. I have every confidence that he will do a fantastic job portraying Taarak Mehta. I believe he is the best choice because we met him, spoke with him extensively, and understood his points of view. I don't want to offend my audience because they made me who I am today. When people compliment me, it inspires me to work harder. I also take their criticism seriously and make an effort to improve it. I have faith that Sachin ji will develop his character and put in the necessary amount of effort."
When discussing Dayaben's highly anticipated return on TMKOC, Asit Modi said, "I am aware that there are a few show-related changes that need to be made. One character that the audience has struggled to forget is Daya Bhabhi. Although the character has been absent from the show for the past four to five years, fans still miss her and want her to return. However, Disha Vakani, who played Daya Bhabhi, has new obligations, and I have the utmost respect for her. I waited for her to come back during the COVID era, and I am still waiting and praying that God performs a miracle so that she returns to the show. However, she is now married, has two children, and is responsible for her family. Currently, she is concentrating on her personal life. Even though I, like the viewers, would like to see her back on the show, I can assure you that we will find a replacement if she doesn't. We've changed the plot as well, with Jethalal promising to abstain from food and drink. However, since Jethalal ke bagair kuch nahi hoga, we now need to find Daya Bhabhi. Since the show has been running for the past 15 years, change is unavoidable, so if adjustments must be made, we will make them and introduce new characters as well."
Asit, the longest-running sitcom's producer, revealed that he and Disha Vakani are still related and that there is no animosity between them "Just consider how Disha Vakani has lived the role. We don't hold any resentments or bad feelings toward one another. Both her family and mine are like family to us. Even she, I believe, must be itching to go back to the persona she has created. She is engaged in what she enjoys. If she agrees to come, we will be delighted, but if she doesn't, we will replace her. A new Daya Bhabhi will be brought by us, "said he.
He continued by saying that although people believe they are delaying Dayaben's return and Popatlal's wedding on purpose, the reality is that such momentous occasions require careful planning and execution "People keep writing to us asking for changes and the return of characters, but since it's a daily show, we also need to concentrate on the narrative. Because casting the right actor is crucial, everything takes time. We need to find people who can commit to us; we are not delaying it on purpose. We shouldn't cast someone only for them to fall short of our expectations later on. Such significant changes necessitate extensive planning and execution," he said.
