New Delhi: A unique case has come to light after the NRC came into force in Assam. The state government has issued a magisterial inquiry into the death of an inmate at a foreign detention centre located in Tezpur district. According to Mrunmay Dawka, Superintendent of Tezpur Jail and Detention Center, the son of an inmate named Dulal Pal has refused to take the body of his father.

He says he will not take the dead body until his father is declared an Indian citizen. According to the magazine's report, the foreign tribunal declared Dulal Pal as Bangladeshi in 2017. After which he was kept in Tezpur Jail and Detention Center. According to DCP Manvendra Pratap Singh, 65-year-old Pal was admitted to the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital where he died. Pratap Singh says that a memorandum was also submitted by 'The Bengali Federation of Assam' to investigate the matter.

According to Davaka, Pal was also undergoing treatment for diabetes and psychiatric diseases. On 11 October, the investigation was carried out at Tezpur Medical College and Hospital. This made his condition worse the next day. He was sent to Guwahati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) where he died on 13 October.
