Guwahati: The Budget session of Assam Assembly is going to begin today and the Governor Banwarilal Purohit will address it. Today, the house will also choose a new Assembly Speaker.  It is likely to be expected that BJP and its ally nominated legislator Hitendra Nath Goswami to be elected for the post.

On February 7, for the next financial year, the Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will present the Annual Budget.

The Finance Minister of India Arun Jaitley on February 1 will present the Budget in which Railway budget will also be merged. There was the demand that the budget should be presented after the assembly elections in five states but Supreme Court last week refused to postpone the date.
