Flood wreaks havoc in Assam, 34 lost their lives

Guwahati: The monsoon has knocked over half the country in the midst of a severe form of heat. As soon as it rains, the rivers are beginning to move out of their territory. The rains and floods in Assam have put people's lives at risk. 23 out of 33 districts of Assam have been caught in floods. Due to this more than 16,03,255 lakh people have been affected. Village after village have been evacuated. Millions of victims have made the highway their hideout.

More than 2200 villages in 23 districts of Assam are badly flooded. The Brahmaputra river is running above the danger mark in many places. Its tributaries are also in spate. More than 265 relief camps have been set up by the state government in more than 12 districts. About 30 thousand people have been kept in these. Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) said that 34 people have lost their lives so far.

Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Chirang, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salmara, Gowalpara, Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro), Morigaon, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and Assam in Assam Anglong districts are badly affected by the floods. According to the authority, Barpeta has been the worst hit, where nearly 8.60 lakh people have been affected, followed by 1.95 lakh in South Salmara, more than 94,000 in Gowalpara and 62,000 in Morigaon. The district administration and common people have evacuated 2,852 people from 4 districts to safe places in the last 24 hours.
