Assam: Forest worker shoots himself with his service rifle in Kaziranga

Guwahati: Saikia, a forest officer posted at Daphlong camp in Kaziranga National Park, allegedly shot himself with his service rifle on Saturday evening after talking to his wife over the phone. The deceased forest officer, identified as Saikia, was in the camp along with his two other officials. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Earlier from 1989, Saikia started working as a forest guard. He had also called his wife before shooting himself but no one has yet officially explained why he took this step. Earlier, there was an incident of firing in Palhaji under Barpeta police station of Barpeta district last night. It is noteworthy that a person named Alip Hussain of the same village had allegedly informed the police that Shahrukh alias Muktar of the same village was involved in illegal business.

Later, two men on a bike opened fire in front of Alip Hussain's house. Police suspect that Shahrukh alias Muktar was involved in the incident. Police have recovered three blank cartridges and two live cartridges from the spot. The investigation continues. Police also seized an excavator and two tractors from Muktar's house.
