Assam Governor Applauds Asam Sahitya Sabha's Efforts in Promoting Assamese Language and Culture

Sivasagar: Assam Governor Gulab Chand Kataria praised the Asam Sahitya Sabha for its pivotal role in nurturing the Assamese language, literature, and cultural heritage beyond borders. Speaking at the 107th Foundation Day of Asam Sahitya Sabha, he emphasized the institution's significance in instilling a love for the mother tongue among younger generations and advocating primary education in native languages.

During the event held in Sivasagar district, Governor Kataria highlighted the Sabha's historical connection to the district, hosting its inaugural conference and currently celebrating its 107th anniversary. He extended gratitude to Asam Sahitya Sabha for cultivating affection and regard for the mother tongue among children. He also commended the efforts of both Central and State governments in initiating early education in students' indigenous languages.

Reflecting on Assam's literary figures' substantial contribution to India's independence movement, the Governor acknowledged their pivotal role in disseminating messages to garner nationwide support.

Governor Kataria paid tribute to Assamese literary giants Laxminath Bezboruah, Chandrakumar Agarwal, and Hemchandra Goswami, recognizing their invaluable contributions. He highlighted Asam Sahitya Sabha's extensive impact on various aspects of people's lives, particularly praising the translation of epics like Ramayana, Mahabharata, and Upanishads into Assamese, emphasizing their role in connecting children with their cultural roots.

Several dignitaries, including Assam Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan, Lok Sabha MP Topon Kumar Gogoi, Rajya Sabha MP Pabitra Margherita, Former GS Axom Sahitya Sabha Nahendra Padun, Adviser Education Govt. of Assam Prof. Nani Gopal Mahanta, President Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr. Surjya Kanta Hazarika, and Sivasagar District President Asam Sahitya Sabha Dr. Nirupama Mahanta, graced the foundation day celebration.

Continuing his visit to Sivasagar district, Governor Kataria chaired a review meeting with the district administration at the District Commissioner's office. He assessed the progress of various development schemes, interacted with beneficiaries, and gathered their perspectives. Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan also participated in the review meeting.
