 In a first of its kind initiative to promote the education of the girl child, the Assam government has decided to give financial incentives to girls students. state Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma informed that the state government has decided to give girl students Rs 100 for every day they attend schools.

While speaking to reporters, Sarma said that the state government will deposit Rs 1500 and Rs 2000 respectively for undergraduate and postgraduate students in their bank accounts by the end of this month so that the students can use the money to buy books. He further added that the state government will provide scooters to all girl students who passed in the first division in 2018 and 2019 from the state board even if the number crosses a lakh.

Assam government has also given scooters to girl students of Assam. Till now 948 girl students have received scooters. The government will spend Rs 144.30 crore to buy motorbikes for 22, 245 girls who passed the Class 12 board exam in the first division. Meanwhile, the education minister has also announced that the Assam HSLC or Class 10 Board Examinations would be conducted from May 11, 2021. Also, the Higher Secondary of Class 12 examinations conducted by AHSEC would commence from May 12, 2021.
